The Chalet experience is all about being relaxed and feeling at home, having fun in the company of friends, enjoying good food and having all the worries of ‘what to do’ and ‘how to do it’ sorted out for you.

Our aim at Chalet Gove is to provide you with all of these experiences and more, in particular we know that skiing or boarding and food and drink tend to be at the centre of most Chalet experiences! So here’s what we offer….

Food and Drink

All our meals and cakes are home made using organic and natural products wherever possible and are tasty, hearty and wholesome. We are happy to cater for vegetarians and if possible other dietary requirements. Complimentary wine is served with the evening meal and guests are free to purchase and consume their own drinks within the Chalet. We have a large lounge for guest use and a separate dining room where meals are served and complimentary tea and coffee is available all day.

Breakfast and afternoon cake is provided every day, the evening meal is provided every day except for one day (our day off). So on one night of the week you will be able to eat out and sample the local fare. The simplest option will be to cross the road to the very good bar / restaurant ‘Gasthaus Neuwirt’ or a short taxi ride will take you down the road to the town of Tamsweg and a selection of Austrian, Italian and even a Chinese restaurant!

Skiing & Boarding

Chalet Gove is not on the edge of the ski slope and that fact is reflected in our prices (although we do have one ski lift and run in the village which is available for use when the conditions are right!) We are however not far from 4 excellent ski areas and we will drive you each day to the slopes of your choice, with the option to ski / board a different one every day. Depending on the resort, the transfer time door to slope is approximately 20 minutes. In addition there is a free ski bus throughout the day transferring skiers / boarders between each of the resorts. Certain areas do favour different abilities and we can discuss and advise which ones are best for you. For more details see Ski Area.

We are here to make your holiday as smooth and as stress free as possible, providing as much or as little assistance as required. Here’s an idea of what we can provide:

For Complete Beginners…

We know that skiing / boarding especially for beginners can be very daunting! We will…

  • Give advice on the equipment and clothing required.
  • Take you and help you get the equipment you need.
  • Book lessons for you.
  • Take you to your lesson starting point.
  • Ensure you know where to go for lunch.
  • Provide advice on where to ski and board.
  • Ski with you if required once you have your ski / board legs!

For those that have skied before…

We offer the same service as for beginners and for those of you not requiring lessons we can advise on the best ski / board areas for your ability and ski with you on some days if required.

The Lungau ski area is an intermediate’s paradise with lots of lovely wide slopes interspersed with some steeper challenging runs. There are lots of long tree lined slopes helping to keep the snow and visibility good.

For the advanced…

There are a number of challenging black runs, lots of safe off-piste skiing / boarding available and ski-touring.

For those not so keen on skiing and boarding!

We understand that within groups and families not everyone is as keen to ski / board all day every day of their holiday and some may not want to do it or for some reason can not do it. So we are very happy for guests to relax in the Chalet during the day, reading, knitting, listening to music, playing games etc. as long as they do not mind being cleaned around!

For the more energetic there are lots of lovely walks from the Chalet and there is a fantastic swimming pool down in Tamsweg where you can swim inside or outside! (The water is well heated!). Horse riding is available as well as snow shoe walking and cross country skiing and tobogganing.

Others might like to take a day out perusing the shops in Tamsweg, taking coffee in one of the excellent coffee bars and lunch in one of the restaurants and for the more adventurous (or those who particularly like shopping!) a day out to Salzburg is a possibility.

There are castles and museums to wander around and learn about the history and culture of the area.

Or you can simply ride one of the ski lifts enabling you to take in the wonderful views whilst sipping a mug of Gluhwein at one of the mountain ‘huttes’, warming you for the journey back down.
