Local Traditions

There are many traditional events unique to this area, for example every Wednesday evening in the main square of Tamsweg you can enjoy a traditional concert or the Z’sammsitz’n - tables and chairs and stalls are put out in the Square and families, friends and visitors can sit eat and drink and listen to traditional music folk music from the region. The stalls sell all sorts of local food, drink and crafts.

Most weeks you will be able to experience a Samson parade; a giant mythical character (6.2m tall and 105kg) parades and dances for you to the music of the local brass band plus you may be treated to a celebratory round of rifle fire from the traditional shooting club soldiers!

These are just some of the activities available to you, for a more detailed list of what is available please see our things to do page.

The Lungau has always been an area well known for its pastime of mushroom picking. Just walk from our front door along the Lessach valley and with the right conditions enjoy collecting Chanterelle and Porcini mushrooms within the valley forests. If you are not able to find any, these delights can always be enjoyed at local alpine huts and restaurants.

We will advise you of the walks available, along with supplying printed maps and gps routes to allow you to find your way around this beautiful area easily. Many of the walks start fom our doorstep, where they do not we will transport you to and from your choosen walk in our minibus. We are happy to discuss and tailor the holiday to your individual requirements so please enquire and we will try our best to fit in with your needs.

Your catered chalet experience will provide evening three course meals with complimentary wine, after which you can relax in our large cosy lounge. On the other three nights we will take you to a restaurant of your choice where you can experience the typical friendly Lungau hospitality while enjoying one of the many local specialty dishes.

If you fancy a break, or the weather turns out to be not very kind there are many other activities and events you can enjoy.
